I have been in love with photography since I was 9 years old.
I used to take the camera out of my parents’ dresser drawer without them knowing and run off and take photos of my sister and brother, which they would only know about later after they developed the film. In high school I took a photography class and I was hooked. I spent my junior year as a photographer on the newspaper staff and senior year as photo editor.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Photojournalism from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 1999 and was a Dean’s List student. One of my favorite things about studying on a university level was the encouragement for creative freedom and the countless hours spent in the darkroom. I loved putting the photo paper in the developer and watching as my images slowly appeared.
I spent time living and working in New York City and Connecticut before returning to Indiana for four years with my husband. It was there we began to shoot digital and started to move beyond just shooting landscapes and began shooting portraits of models, couples, bands and children. My love of portraiture grew there and I knew that I wanted to combine my love of telling stories with my camera, with fashion, glamour and art.
In 2006 we moved to beautiful Portland, Maine. It was there we began shooting weddings as well as continued to shoot other portraits. My strong background in photojournalism is instrumental to the way that I shoot a wedding and I love telling the story of the most important day in someone’s life with my images. My work has been described as evocative and moody, and I work hard to create photographs that are unique and tell a story.
