ABOUT US

We are a husband & wife team of professional photographers who started our business, Fidelio Photography, in 2005. We moved to Portland, Maine in 2006, and opened our studio space in the historic State Theater building on Congress Street. We are currently entering our 5th year as wedding photographers, shooting over 25 weddings a year in Maine and beyond. Additionally, we are fashion photographers and shoot portfolios for independent models and agencies. Our other portrait work includes high school seniors and families.

We love photography and working with people. We like to think outside the box and find funky locations, play with light and experiment with poses and ideas for all of our shoots. One of the greatest compliments that we constantly receive is how comfortable we make our clients feel and that there is a story behind all of our images.

INVESTMENT

Our collections for 2012 begin at $3,850 and include up to 8 hours of coverage by Jess & Lyle with high resolution, color corrected images and print release form. Collections with albums begin at $5,500. We have other items you can add-on, such as engagement session, additional hours, parent albums, save the date and thank you cards and more. Most clients typically invest $6,500. Our goal is for our clients to not only have gorgeous photos that tell the story of their day, but also products that they can show to family and friends and pass down from generation to generation.

We highly suggest viewing our portfolio and blog to make sure our style is what you are looking for. We are also available to meet in person and talk or via Skype.

Our portrait sessions range in price and include print credits and the option to purchase digital files. Please contact us for our rate info.

FAQ

What is Fidelio?
The word Fidelio actually comes from Beethoven’s only opera. We were looking for something a little different for the name of our company. For you music lovers out there you might notice that the drop “f” in our logo is also the forte symbol (and the f-stop symbol in photography).

Why should I chose Fidelio Photography for my wedding?
When you choose Fidelio Photography for your wedding, you receive the services of TWO creative, educated and experienced professional photographers. We are currently in our 5th year shooting weddings full-time.

Weddings are dynamic and fast-paced, with conditions (weather, light, etc.) that are constantly changing. Photographers who are inexperienced will have a hard time working with these conditions and catching the moments. When booking a photographer for your wedding ask them to see an entire wedding or two, check and see how many weddings they have done and what their former clients have said. Your wedding day happens one time. With two photographers we are able to offer unique angles and capture moments often missed by having only one photographer. The only thing that remains after a wedding is your photographs.

What is your style?
Our wedding photography has been described as “emotional,” “evocative,” “compelling,” and “artistic.” We are photojournalists who capture the emotion and moments on the wedding day with more of an edge or fashion/editorial and modern style than other photographers. We do not re-create moments or pose people throughout the wedding day, but capture the moments as they happen.

How far in advance should I book?
Currently we are booked a year (sometimes more) in advance for wedding dates. It does depend on the date, each year certain dates are more popular than others. Definitely send us an e-mail to check on your date’s availability, though! :) We recommend booking as early as possible to ensure we will be available for your date.

Do you use associate photographers?
No, all weddings are shot by the two of us.

Are you insured? Do you have backup equipment?
We are insured and we do have backup equipment (including camera bodies, flashes, memory cards, etc). We also backup our wedding files immediately after each wedding.

Do you travel and do destination weddings?
Yes, please contact us for availability and rates.

What type of portrait sessions do you offer?
We photograph families, seniors, fashion/beauty, maternity and limited boudoir sessions.

Do you do any portrait sessions in the studio?
The only indoor sessions that we offer are fashion/beauty/boudoir. All our family and senior sessions are on location — we will occasionally shoot in a client home or other indoor location but do not do these sessions in the studio. There are so many amazing locations in Maine to shoot at!

CLIENT QUOTES

“Discriminating- When I was looking for a photographer for my wedding I wanted more than just the posed pictures of family. I wanted to be able to go back to my pictures and relive the day. The emotions, the moments and the story behind it all.  I looked at so many websites and then I was recommended to Fidelio, I called my mom and said, “I found who I want.” Because as I looked at the pictures I felt like I was in that moment with these people I had never met. I felt the presence of them and their emotions, all while sitting in my living room looking at strangers wedding pictures.  I say discriminating because Jess and Lyle’s work stood out from hundreds of wedding pictures I scoured through before I found them. Discriminating is defined as having excellent taste and judgment and I believe Jess and Lyle poses  both of these, which is in part, what makes them so good at what they do.

Ingenious- Because I felt like each couple has a different story, culture and/or theme they bring to their wedding day, I didn’t want my pictures to be cookie cutter. When looking at Jess and Lyle’s portfolio I noticed an uniqueness in the different weddings. They were able to use their creativity and meld that with the energy of the day and create such different (yet consistently fabulous) pictures from each couple’s wedding. This gave me confidence that Jess and Lyle would use their creativity to capture the uniqueness of our wedding day.

Compelling- Fidelio’s pictures are just that, compelling. Even after working with Jess and Lyle I am a fan of their work and am still curious to see their most recent shoots. Maybe magnetizing would be a better word here, because I still find myself checking their blog or facebook page to check out their new work.

“Discriminating, Ingenious and Compelling” These are three words I used when Jess and Lyle asked their clients one day what would be three words they would use to describe their work. It was such a pleasure to work with Jess and Lyle. I love how our pictures came out. It is true when people say the day goes by so fast. But every time I look through my pictures I feel like I get to relive it and thank god there is evidence of some of those DIY projects we slaved over in the weeks before the wedding :)

“We have been so honored to work with Fidelio Photography for our family & children’s portraits.  You catered to our somewhat unconventional requests, and the settings you chose and suggestions you made were absolutely perfect.  We felt instantly comfortable with you both, we had so much fun, and your ideas and compositions were unique and so very cool.  All the shoots were performed with the perfect balance of professionalism and creativity. We have been fans of you both since we first saw your work. Your ability to capture emotion, your daring perspective and locations, and your seemingly limitless talent for the demands of every situation are awe-inspiring.  Thank you both so much for being a part of our family history.”-Werner Family

“We are so pleased with the quality of our engagement and weddingphotos! Jessica and Lyle captured each moment perfectly in a creative and artistic fashion. We had a lot of fun during our engagement shoot and really appreciated the opportunity to meet our photographers and become comfortable in front of a camera.

Beyond beautifully documenting our wedding day, Jessica and Lyle were always professional and friendly, and it was apparent that they truly love what they do. Thank you so much for putting your hearts and creative energies into your art!”-Megan & Bryan, August 2009
