High School Seniors, Class of 2013

We are excited to begin booking sessions for the Class of 2013 and looking forward to meeting a great group of graduating seniors this year! All sessions this year will be shot by Jessica, who has been shooting fashion and other portraiture professionally for the past 8 years. These sessions are so much fun and we have lots of great ideas for seniors who are looking for a beautiful and unique session — lots of cool locations to choose from, pose coaching if you need it, professional hair and makeup available as well as styling help. Due to our schedule with weddings and other work this summer (and lots of travel), we are only accepting 15 seniors this season so that our studio can process the photos quickly and keep all of our clients happy. Stevenson Family, Maine Family Lifestyle Photography

Last spring we were contacted by a family who was going to be vacationing in Maine for two weeks and were interested in documenting their time here in a photojournalistic/lifestyle way. I loved that they were not looking for the traditional group portraits and instead trusted our vision and wanted us to shoot them hanging out, having fun, eating lobster, etc. We spent quite a bit of time with them over the two weeks they stayed in Saco/Old Orchard Beach, Maine at a beautiful house right on the ocean, and they very quickly forgot we were even there and were comfortable letting us into their lives to shoot everything. This was one of my favorite shoots that we had all summer. There is a great mix of portraiture and photojournalism — from their proud grandparents spending time with their new twins, to sisters hanging out by the ocean at sunset being silly, time outs, playing games, eating lobster, visiting lighthouses and lots in between, it was an amazing experience to help them document their summer vacation. We are currently in the process of putting a beautiful album together with everything and they also had canvases blown up of their kids for their house. We love that our photos are used in that way and are so happy we could get to know them all. And it looks like we may be going on another adventure with them this summer. If you are considering a family session with us please get in touch, we book limited sessions in the summer and fall and they all take place outdoors. We can work with you on the location or come to you (we have shot many sessions at rented beach houses with visiting families like the Stevenson’s).

Happy New Year!

We are going to be posting weddings (in random order!) from 2011 and are so excited to show you all the stories from these weddings. This year we completed our 5th year as wedding photographers. Every year we try to challenge ourselves more and set up to have an even better year than the last. Since we started in this business we have always been known to push the boundaries a bit and shoot things in a unique way. While the type of wedding, setting and client will sometimes dictate the photos that are taken, every wedding has a story and the way a photographer sees things — the light, the moments, the composition — are the way that story will be told. When our couples look back at their wedding photos again in 30, 40, 50+ years, we want them to see their stories in the most beautiful and moving way possible. That was our goal for 2011 and we can’t wait to show you more. We met some incredible people and shot in some beautiful places this year.

Doug and Jenny were married at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH in September, surrounded by their family and friends. We met with them for the first time just a few days before the wedding and instantly had so much in common and a great connection. Their wedding day was in an absolutely beautiful setting and styled by Melanie at Blissful Beginnings (we highly recommend her!).

Andy and Chelsie’s Maternity Session

This is easily one of my favorite shoots I’ve done this year. While we don’t do many maternity shoots anymore, this is the only way that I like to do them–creative, fun, natural. Chelsie has been a client of mine since she was 17 years old. When we first moved to Maine she and her cute younger twin sisters all came to our studio to do modeling sessions and I loved working with her right away. Since then I have done other shoots with her (and Andy) and she has gone to Paris for modeling and had some great opportunities. Chelsie is due in a few weeks and we wanted to document her pregnancy in a unique way that was reflective of her and Andy’s life – Andy works at his family’s potato farm which someday is where their baby boy will work! So we have the model and the potato farmer. I cannot wait to meet their little spud in a few weeks!

We are LONG overdue for a new blog… what an amazing and busy summer/fall we had with weddings, fashion shoots, high school seniors and SO much more. The good news is that now we have blog material for the winter while things are a little slower! We have been putting up previews of all the weddings on our Facebook page, so please check that out. Here’s a little preview of some shoots from 2011, look for new blogs soon!

In addition to our work together, we have also been busy pursuing our individual interests and projects: Jess has had a busy summer shooting fashion with multiple magazine editorials published and Lyle recently shot the music video “Flower Child” for the band Paranoid Social Club. This was his first time shooting and directing a music video, but definitely not his last! We also filmed a short piece for a family this summer which will be be posting here soon.

Werner Family Session

Things you should know about the Werner family:

1) They are seriously one of the coolest families ever. We don’t say that lightly. From the way they interact with each other, to their interests and how amazingily cool, open and down-to-earth they are, they are awesome.

2) Photos are REALLY important to them. Every year we start talking about their shoot in the summer (to shoot in fall) and they want to capture their family in a cool and creative way. Last year we recreated the Beatles Abbey Road album cover with them. This year they rented a schooner from the Portland Schooner Company and we all went out for a sunset cruise for two hours. It was the most beautiful day/evening and could not have been more perfect.
