Due to the popularity of last year’s boudoir marathon mini sessions weekend Jess will be shooting another one January 8-9, 2011! There will be 4 slots for each day available for just $250 (normally $450). Includes: one hour session, makeup by professional makeup artist Rebecca Morrell, a $100 product credit towards either an album or print package, as many outfits as we can shoot during that time (average 3-4), help with styling/posing. Plus complimentary champagne and strawberries. :)

E-mail now to reserve your spot as they will fill up quickly. Couples are welcome too. I have some amazing ideas for these shoots, so please get in touch to reserve your spot. All products are guaranteed to be in for Valentine’s Day! If you are interested in purchasing a session for someone else please let me know (would make a great Christmas gift). Please see our boudoir gallery on our website for more examples (due to the nature of the shoots and privacy we have limited photos available to view).

One of the great things about Maine is that a LOT of people come and vacation here throughout the summer… it is “Vacationland” afterall! :) Each year we shoot lots of family sessions in the late summer/early fall — we only shoot these sessions until November and we do them all outside on location. There are so many incredible spots to shoot in Maine and we love to explore and find them! Recently we shot a family who vacations at the same house on the beach every year with a group of their friends. They were so much fun to work with and their daughters are so cute (most of the shots here are totally candid, they weren’t particularly all that interested in sitting still for us, but that makes for great shots)!

After we shot this session I actually went to NYC for a week to visit and shoot some fashion work (more on that later). While I was there my aunt showed me a DVD she made for my other aunt’s recent birthday as a surprise for her. It was filled with photos from throughout her life and some amazing portraits, candid, etc that was very powerful. I also thought back to when I was growing up how my mom had a frame wall in our living room of black and white family portraits from when I was a baby, with my grandmother who passed away when I was 9. I loved that wall of photos. Things have changed since digital has become so popular–instead of making prints or getting albums now a lot of people are satisfied with some files on their computer or to post on Facebook. This is cool and great for sharing with others, but can’t replace how powerful a print can be, and being able to pass those prints or albums down from generation to generation.

On another note, please contact us if you’re local or visiting and want to plan a fun family session. Our sessions are a mix of candid and group portraits. We work with you in advance to plan location, clothing, etc. Our schedule tends to book up very quickly so please book early (we are available mornings and evenings during the week and have very limited weekend availability Aug-Nov.) We met Luke and Marion in early 2007, very soon after we had moved to Maine, to discuss their September 2007 wedding. We all hit it off immediately and a quick meeting to discuss their wedding turned into drinks and conversation late into the evening. They were actually some of the first friends we had in Maine. Their wedding was great, we shot several other times after that and then started meeting often for dinners and hanging out. They are SO much fun and it’s really rare to meet people you connect with like that as an adult (especially when you don’t work in a real office!). And we feel so lucky when we have clients that we hit it off with like that. Luke and Marion are moving to Maryland (today, actually!) and even though we are sad to see them go they are taking advantage of new opportunities there and are excited to live in a new area… Actually we think that secretly they just think that Maryland crabcakes are better than Maine’s. ;)

Here are some of the shots we took as part of an anniversary/goodbye shoot… M&L we will miss you!

Somewhere in between the cute elementary school years and fun senior portraits is a time we all remember and love (ha), the teen years… Looking back at my own portraits of myself from when I was younger there are very few from when I was 13-17 (and my senior photos were absolutely awful, stiff-looking, boring photos)… and the ones I do have aren’t really reflective of who I really was as a teenager. We shoot a lot of children’s portraits and lots of high school seniors, but until now haven’t really had many shoots with teenagers. A few weeks ago I did some shots for a friend’s sister who is thirteen and had such a great time walking around and getting to know her. Then she put the photos up on her Facebook and it was really amazing to see how positively all her friends reacted to the photos. We are now offering special shoots for teens which are shot a lot like our senior shoots. Our amazing makeup artist Rebecca is available for these shoots and we offer help with posing and styling and concepts for the shoots. Please contact us if you’re interested in more information!

Meet Riley. He’s the son of a family that we frequently work with and is interested in modeling. He’s a freshman in high school and a really awesome musician. We had so much fun at his shoot which, as a musician as well, I especially loved — and how often is it that you get to smash a guitar at a shoot? :)
