Portland, Maine City Hall Elopement | Alex + Patrick

Last fall Alex called me and excitedly told me about her and Patrick's plans for a fun destination elopement (or as she called it a "fakelopement") to Portland, one of their favorite spots. They were really excited about our beautiful City Hall building and getting portraits in a location that felt like quintessential Maine, as well as a few shots at night of their after party with friends at Arcadia Bar, a fun spot in town with lots of games and old pinball machines. I also had a chance to meet up with her when she was visiting in the winter to hear more about their plans over some food at Duckfat and it immediately felt like I was hanging out with someone I had known for awhile. She has an awesome energy which I think you can also see from their photos.

When their wedding day finally arrived in early June we were faced with a dilemma that is often a problem with the ever-changing weather here: a storm was moving through. Fortunately they had flexibility with their hair/makeup and plans for the day so we moved a few things around and changed our plans and got so lucky because the minute that we finished up their session at Two Lights the sky opened up and it started pouring. But before that we were able to capture the beautiful, moody Maine coastline for them and I love how romantic the photos feel in that setting. Alex opted for a cute, shorter tulle dress and fun Kate Spade Keds for the portrait part of the day when they were scaling the rocks (and even threw on her favorite J Crew jean jacket for a few shots) and all of Patrick's wardrobe is from J Crew. I love how Alex went a little vintage/classic with her hair and makeup which was beautifully done by Angela Priest at Details Salon in Portland. Alex's mother made her bouquet for her and after their ceremony their friends threw eco-friendly confetti at them from BHLDN which was a really cool, fun touch. We had an absolute blast working with these two and hope they come back to see us (and maybe play some more arcade games! ;) ) the next time they're in Maine!

If you're planning a mid-week elopement in Maine please get in touch with us! We have lots of suggestions for vendors to make the day special as well as stunning locations throughout Portland/Cape Elizabeth/Scarborough/etc that are amazing backdrops for portraits!
